Description
Meadowsweet
Botanical Name: Filipendula ulmaria
Filipendula ulmaria likes a moist well drained position, with regular watering during hot summers.
A popular herb for aches, pain and fever, meadowsweet was the key ingredient that Bayer used for its original methyl salicylic acid formulation which in its synthesised form is known as Aspirin.
In the past, meadowsweet was used as an anti-inflammatory to reduce the symptoms of arthritis and rheumatism. The herb is gentle on the stomach, and is used to treat stomach upsets, feverish colds, diarrhoea and heartburn.
